KAJ ready for the relocation of Kiruna church

May 20, 2025

With three months to go until Kiruna Church moves to its new home, it has been confirmed that Sweden’s Eurovision entry, KAJ, will be one of the performers taking the stage during the event. The relocation of Kiruna Church is a globally unique happening taking place on 19-20 August 2025.

“For generations, the church has been an important gathering place with a special place in many people’s hearts. We want the relocation to become a cherished memory and create new opportunities to come together. What could be more fitting than KAJ bringing their sauna spirit to Kiruna, with the warmth, joy, and sense of community they radiate. We are very happy that they want to contribute in making this an unforgettable event,” says Stefan Holmblad Johansson, project manager for the church relocation at LKAB.

KAJ will perform after the day’s relocation activities conclude on August 19. The exact time will be announced later, but at some point during the evening, residents of Kiruna and visitors will be able to enjoy the show.

”Coming to Kiruna for the church relocation is truly fantastic. It is an event that will go down in the history books, and being part of it is a memory for life. We hope all the residents of Kiruna warm up with a proper sauna, as we’ll soon meet each other at the square in the new town center to sing, laugh, and share the moment together,” says KAJ.

The relocation of the church will be livestreamed, and a range of activities will be organised in connection with the event. The program will span three days, with more artists and activities to be added and announced in the coming months. Everything is free of charge and no advance booking is required.

Kiruna Church has been named Sweden’s most beautiful building and holds great cultural and historical value. It will be the largest building to be moved as part of the urban transformation that began planning over 20 years ago and has received worldwide attention.

The reason for the move is the mining operations at LKAB’s iron ore mine, which are affecting the area considered the old town center where the church is currently situated.
