Anna Borg believes in power of partnerships like HYBRIT
Vattenfall's Anna Borgs is convinced that sustainability is a competitive edge. She joined us for a few quick takes on that and more following our deep talk session Fossil-Free Steel and beyond.
Anna Borg is the president and CEO of Vattenfall, one of our partners in HYBRIT Development. In February 2022, she took part in our Deep Talk Fossil-Free Steel and Beyond – Enabling a Carbon-Free World Economy during the World Exhibition Expo 2020 (post-poned because of the Covid-19 pandemic).
In an interview after the session, she offered some of her conclussions.
To Anna, the business leading large-scale investments Vattenfall are making together with LKAB and SSAB are necessary for many reasons. One of them is about actually mitigating risk from a business perspective:
“There’s a lot of discussions around the risks we’re taking by being front-runners with the HYBRIT project. I actually think that’s not the large risk. To me it’s quite amazing that companies are still not moving towards a sustainable business model. That is the big risk of the future.”.
She goes on arguing for the need of business and sustainability going hand in hand. Anna points to the fact that SSAB for example does not have a sustainability strategy, but a business strategy that is sustainable.
To succeed with the transformation, Vattenfall’s CEO also emphasise how cooperation will be key in the decarbonisation of industries:
“What will be important going forward is the power of partnerships which we have displayed in the HYBRIT project, and that will be needed in order to decarbonize more value chains going forward.”.
