Iron was there at the tip of the pen when important laws were signed. In the seat belt that revolutionised safety. In the typewriter that created some of our most beloved fairy tales. And in the rocket that took people into space. We rarely think about it, but iron ore is found practically everywhere around us. It all starts in the mine, here in Norrbotten.
Iron ore is there in the devices we adore, the staples we simply must have and the things that make our everyday world turn. It's in the swing that tickles our stomachs, the camera that captures our memories and the car that takes us where we need to go. We didn't build all that – but we mine the ore that makes it possible. That makes LKAB a part of your everyday life and our shared future.
Every day we mine some 135,000 tonnes of iron ore, which becomes buses, lampposts, saucepans, bicycle chains, seat belts and a lot of other amazing things that we have in our lives.
We produce the most iron ore in all of Europe. In fact, as much as 80 percent of all iron ore in the EU comes from us. It is all mined in Norrbotten and travels to the world via the ports of Narvik and Luleå.
We are fully owned by the Swedish state and distribute a large portion of our profits every year – most recently SEK 4.4 billion for 2024.
