New system for applying for access to LKAB

LKAB is introducing a new system for applying for access permits to our operational areas. The aim is to create a more user-friendly, secure and traceable process.

The new system will be implemented at the end of March 2026. All existing permissions will be transferred to the new system and remain valid until their expiry date. When it is time to renew your access permit, you will do so via the new system.

This system covers everyone applying for access at LKAB, including subsidiaries, in Kiruna, Malmberget, Svappavaara and Luleå – above and below ground. Exceptions are Narvik and Luleå Malmhamn, where applications will be made according to the usual procedure.

Do you need to apply for access now?

Applications should be made in the existing system until the new system is launched.

The system has been developed by LKAB and replaces older, more manual working methods. The new system makes the process safer and more traceable, with automatic checks of mandatory training and a clear chain from application to approval and allocation. It makes it easier for you as a supplier to track the status of your application, step by step.

As a supplier to LKAB, you are responsible for:

What is changing:

To apply, you must be an approved supplier to LKAB. If you are not listed in our supplier register, you need to contact your contact person at LKAB.

For companies already approved as suppliers, the following steps apply to get started:

1. Register the company in the system. The first administrator is the person listed as the contact person for your company.
2. Invite employees who require access. You can also assign administrator rights to individuals who will help manage applications.
3. Ensure mandatory training is completed and valid (e.g. SSG). Applications cannot be submitted if the requirements are not met.
4. Submit the access application. The application requires more information than the previous system.
5. LKAB review. An appointed person will assess the documentation. Only authorised persons may approve external applications.

Allocation: LKAB’s security department will carry out a final check of the application and allocate the access permit in the access system following approval.

Access permits are granted based on need and for a limited period. Existing access remains valid until expiration. Thereafter, a new application is required.
This is what you do as a subcontractor, depending on how your principal operates.

If the principal manages applications for their subcontractors: Contact your contact person at the principal.

The principal is responsible for:
• submitting applications for their subcontractors, or
• inviting subcontractors to the system,
• reporting all subcontractors to LKAB so that purchasing can enter them in the supplier register.

You cannot proceed in the system until this has been done.

If you as a subcontractor must apply yourself

Contact your principal first. The principal must report you to LKAB before purchasing can enter your company into the supplier register.

If you are not in the supplier register, you cannot:
• register your company in the new system
• submit any application
