Solutions for Change in focus at the Hydrogen Conference 2024

December 19, 2024

The HYBRIT initiative and the upcoming demonstration plant in Gällivare were in the spotlight at this year's Hydrogen Conference, Sweden's largest meeting place for the hydrogen industry. The theme for the year was "solutions that create change."

Every year, companies, the public sector, investors, and researchers in the hydrogen sector gather at the Hydrogen Conference to discuss the latest developments in the field. This year, with the theme “solutions that create change,” Annika Carlson, senior engineer in energy and hydrogen technology at LKAB, was there in Stockholm to present and discuss hydrogen’s role in our transformation, and the opportunities it offers in future processes:
“We have already used hydrogen to produce carbon-free sponge iron during the HYBRIT pilot project, and we are now investigating the conditions for scaling up to the demonstration plant in Gällivare. Hydrogen has the potential to be used in many ways in industry and society in a carbon-free future. Therefore, it is highly relevant in many European research and innovation projects. So conferences like this, with the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with others in the hydrogen and energy sector, are truly rewarding.”

The Hydrogen Conference is organized by Energiforsk, RISE, Energiföretagen, Energigas Sverige, Vätgas Sverige, and the Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden – CH2ESS – at Luleå University of Technology.

“This platform we have built to bring the industry together once a year is important because the development is moving so fast. It was greatly appreciated that LKAB and Vattenfall shared their insights into the work with HYBRIT and the construction of the demo plant, which is the world’s best example of this year’s theme,” says Cecilia Wallmark, Head of Operations at CH2ESS.
