Life between the buidings
We care for and develop life between the buildings for vibrant communities – now and in the future. Although the focus is on the new, what remains must not be overlooked.
Vibrant communities during the transformation are important. That is why LKAB is working to create a pleasant environment for residents and visitors during the ongoing process of change. Facades are painted, lawns are cut, flowers are planted and activities are arranged in the parts that will eventually disappear.
It is important that the changes take time. Our desire is that areas that are to be decommissioned continue to be pleasant. At the same time, we create living and attractive areas, where parks meet recreational areas and residential areas meet a living city center.
It is only together that we can build communities where we have as much consideration for the life between the buildings as about the buildings themselves.
Rational arguments meet emotions
Meeting each individual’s questions and concerns is the real challenge in the urban transformations. Rational arguments are pitted against emotions; habits and traditions challenge new thinking and visions. Moving involves a major adjustment in people’s lives, especially when the old home no longer exists.
Personal ties to places are difficult to measure, especially when it comes to cultural and historical values. The urban transformations that occur due to mining are something unique given the scope, time perspective and impact on modern societies.
A crossroads
LKAB and the mining towns are mutually dependent on each other. The communities provide us with expertise and competitiveness, while the mines create jobs and investments for the benefit of the communities.
The Malmfälten region is facing a choice that will affect life between the houses. Either the communities are relocated or jobs are lost if mining ceases. There is no middle ground.
