Shaping the future
At LKAB, we are leading the transformation of our industry toward a sustainable future. Just as we aim to reshape the world, we are committed to developing every individual on our team, both personally and professionally. Are you ready to help shape the future of the mining and mineral industry?
Your role
As a Research Engineer in Ventilation, you will work hands‑on with mine ventilation performance and support the development of future ventilation solutions across LKAB’s underground operations. The role gives you a broad mix of fieldwork, modelling, analysis, and project participation in one of the world’s most innovative mining environments.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Conducting mine ventilation measurements underground and on the surface, including air velocity, pressure, humidity, temperature, and contaminant sampling.
- Analysing measurement data and communicating results in a clear and professional manner.
- Developing and maintaining mine ventilation models in Ventsim, including airflow distribution, heat, contaminants, fire safety, and egress studies.
- Contributing to ventilation-related projects across all phases – from literature reviews and early concept studies to detailed system design.
- Planning and driving assigned tasks, ensuring timely delivery, documentation, and quality of results.
- Collaborating with colleagues across engineering, operations, and R&D to support safe and efficient mine ventilation solutions.
What you bring
You have prior experience in mine ventilation, with a focus on underground environmental measurements and ventilation modelling. Experience in mine infrastructure design and project execution is an advantage.
You are proficient in MS Office. Experience in ventilation modelling software is required, with Ventsim as the preferred tool. Experience in Deswik design, statistical analysis tools, and Power BI is considered an asset.
You have a strong interest in safety, new technologies, and continuous learning. You bring strong interpersonal and communication skills and are comfortable working in multicultural and cross-functional environments.
- Bachelor or M.Sc. level education in mining or another relevant field is required
- Have good communication skills and proficiency in English, both spoken and written
- Additional courses or studies in mine ventilation are highly beneficial
- Fluency in Swedish is considered beneficial
- A driver’s license (Swedish B-class minimum) is a requirement for all positions at LKAB
What we offer
In addition to the general benefits we offer — which you can find a bit further down — we can also offer you, who currently do not live in Sweden, the following:
- Relocation support for you and your family.
- Excellent conditions for settling in. We guide you through the official procedures necessary to settle in the country if you come from outside Sweden. We also provide temporary accommodation for a reasonable period and help you find a permanent place to live according to your personal needs.
- LKAB helps you learn Swedish, a tool for a better understanding of Swedish culture.
- The Swedish vacation law entitles all employees to five weeks of vacation per year, and four consecutive weeks during June, July, or August. Your contract may include extra vacation days.
