LKAB: Jan Moström retiring next year

The board is now initiating the recruitment process to find a successor to Jan Moström as President and CEO of LKAB. Jan Moström, who will turn 66 this year, will retire next year.
The goal is to have a successor to Jan Moström in place by the turn of the year, with Jan remaining as an advisor to the new President and CEO for six months to ensure a smooth transition. Jan has been President and CEO of LKAB for 10 years.
– LKAB is in a strong position following Jan’s tenure as President and CEO. With a very strong balance sheet, good profitability, and a competitive business, LKAB stands strong. LKAB currently has significant mineral resources, which will be transformed into continued mining operations for a long time to come. The company has made progress with several development projects, including the transition to climate-efficient iron and steel products and the production of rare earth metals and phosphorus. LKAB’s employees and the Board have every reason to thank Jan for a job well done, says Anders Borg, Chairman of the Board LKAB.
– It has been a privilege to lead LKAB together with all the talented employees over these years, with the goal of building competitiveness for generations to come. I am proud of what we have achieved and the position we have built, where we have had the strength and ability to keep our focus on the future, even when present-day challenges have arisen, says Jan Moström.
– This is an important process that requires us to act in time. LKAB is not only a crucial economic engine in the north. With 80 percent of the EU’s iron ore production and perhaps Europe’s largest deposits of high-quality iron, rare earth metals, and phosphorus, LKAB is and will continue to be increasingly important for Sweden and Europe in a time of geopolitical uncertainty, where we need to reduce carbon emissions, says Anders Borg.
LKAB is an international mining and minerals group that offers sustainable iron ore, minerals and special products. We are committed to developing carbon-free processes and products by 2045, leading the transformation of the iron and steel industry. Since 1890 we have developed through unique innovations and technological solutions and are driven forward by almost 5,200 employees in 12 countries. In 2024, the LKAB group had sales of about SEK 33 billion. lkab.com
