LKAB has appointed Peter Richardson as new Senior Vice President for Business Area Iron Ore and member of the Group Management Team. He will assume the position in the first quarter of 2026.
Peter Richardson has previously held the role of Executive Managing Director of Nevada Gold Mines (Barrick Mining) in the United States and brings extensive experience from the mining industry, having worked for companies such as Boliden and Lundin Mining. He joins from a current role as an independent advisor, working with mining clients in Sweden and the United States.
Over his 30 years in the industry, he has led operations in Europe as well as North and South America within the base metals and gold sectors. In his role at Nevada Gold Mines, he was responsible for ten underground mines, twelve open pits, as well as associated processing facilities and power plants. During his time at Boliden, Peter Richardson held various positions, including the role as General Manager at the Aitik mine.
“I am pleased to welcome Peter to LKAB. With his solid experience from the mining sector, both in Sweden and internationally, he brings valuable expertise that strengthens our continued development,” says Jan Moström, President and CEO of LKAB.
Peter Richardson succeeds current Senior Vice President Michael Palo, who will remain with the Group until the end of March.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for me, and I look forward to meeting the team, getting to know the organization, and learning the operations. I’m appealed by LKAB’s strong history, large-scale operations, technological advancements, and clear commitment to a more sustainable future”, says Peter Richardson.
The recruitment has been carried out in consultation with LKAB’s incoming President and CEO, Johan Menckel, who will assume his new role on April 1.
