Major investments in Narvik

October 15, 2025

Since 2005, we have invested around SEK 5 billion in Narvik. A further SEK 5 billion is planned until 2029.

Investments so far:

The new ship loader that has just been inaugurated is built to today’s standards for operation, safety and working environment – a clear contrast to the loader that was put into service in the 1970s. At that time, facilities were designed with completely different requirements in mind, and the technology lacked many of the solutions that are now a given for both efficiency and the working environment. With the new loader, we get a modern design that is better adapted to today’s needs, with higher capacity, more reliable technology and features that provide a safer and more secure working environment.

With the new ship loader, we are strengthening both capacity and delivery reliability and taking an important step towards a more modern and future-proof port.

Our responsibility and the look ahead

For LKAB, the investments in Narvik are about more than technology and logistics. The investments create new work for local companies, and LKAB actively contributes to the community life and various initiatives in the city.

For example, LKAB is the main sponsor of LKAB Cup Narvik, one of Northern Norway’s largest football tournaments for children and young people. We are also one of the main sponsors of the Arctic Eagles, who play ice hockey in Norway’s top league, and the main sponsor of the annual Haikjeften festival, which is arranged in our park at Bromsgård in central Narvik. We have also contributed to the Flyt activity park, which provides conditions for active leisure for all Narvik residents.

My ambition is to create long-term opportunities in Narvik – both for LKAB and for those who live and work here.

Marit Walleniussen Daily Leader LKAB Norway

At the same time, we are facing one of the largest industrial transformations in modern times. Developing our products and increasing production volumes requires logistics solutions with greater capacity and more modern technology. The investments we are making today are therefore not only important for Narvik, but also for the future of industry throughout the Nordic region and the world.

We want to continue growing together with Narvik – as an employer, partner and social actor.
