We meet the needs of society
As new areas are developed and others are being closed down, development must always take precedence over closure. We want to contribute to creating attractive communities, with beautiful environments, a good housing and labour market, and a rich selection of entertainment, culture, sports, and outdoor activities.
An important starting point is that there should be new housing, services and infrastructure completed and under construction before we dismantle previous buildings. There should be more time to prepare new areas before existing ones have to be emptied. The construction and demolition processes must not stop halfway.
Development before closure
In order for affected areas to be decommissioned according to plan, it is necessary that development of new areas takes place at the same pace. Before an area can be built, preparatory land and infrastructure work is required, which creates the conditions for new residential areas to emerge.
Another important starting point is that LKAB has access to buildable land in both Gällivare and Kiruna and that the land we intend to build on has a detailed plan. We work closely with the municipalities to create the right conditions for planned development.
A safe transformation
A safe urban transformation requires that LKAB and the municipalities agree on how the transformations will be implemented and who is responsible for what throughout the process. The agreements are regulated in collaboration, cooperation and implementation agreements.
The urban transformations are a democratic process where the views and needs of the public are taken very seriously. Only together can we build the Malmfälten of the future.
