Communities in change

Moving two communities and taking care of local well-being in our communities – that is the challenge that LKAB and Malmfälten face in order for us to continue mining iron ore and be a world-leading export company.

LKAB and Kiruna Municipality present way forward for urban transformation

At a press event on September 12, LKAB and Kiruna Municipality spoke about the way forward for those affected by the new area of impact in Kiruna, including a phased plan and refined compensation principles.

The moving of Kiruna church

Over the course of two amazing days, the church was moved to its new location. The move was carried out according to plan and without complications.

The urban transformation is a large and complex process that will continue for many years at our locations.

Kiruna and Malmberget are home to the two largest underground iron ore mines in the world. The locations of the deposits mean that mining must take place at ever greater depths, and ever closer to the communities.

In order for both LKAB’s operations and the surrounding communities to continue to develop, the transformation must be carried out in collaboration and mutual understanding with those affected. We are doing everything we can to ensure that this is the case.

LKAB and our communities

Our identity is closely tied to our locations in northern Sweden and Norway. For us, community engagement is not just part of our strategy – it is at the core of who we are.
