Every summer at LKAB, we offer temporary work in a number of different areas and roles, both above and below ground, such as mechanics, electricians and miners. Here you can read more about all the different roles we are looking for.
Mechanics
As a mechanic in the mining industry, you play a key role in keeping our machines running and production going. Your maintenance and repair work ensures that operations can continue without interruption. With your technical know-how, you help ensure the efficiency and safety of the mine. A summer job as a mechanic gives you the opportunity to develop your practical skills and gain valuable experience of working in a technical environment. In addition, it is a great entry into the mining industry, an industry where the demand for mechanics is high.
What are the job duties?
As a mechanic at LKAB, you mainly work on maintenance, repairs and servicing of machines. This can, for example, involve changing lamps, hydraulic hoses, filters, fuses, and wheel axles, as well as checking hydraulic pumps or handling oil leaks. There may also be welding jobs at some workplaces.
We need mechanics at many different workplaces, at all our locations. We also need machine service workers for lubrication, which is an important part of preventive maintenance for our plants to function as smoothly as possible. As a lubricator, you make rounds throughout the operations, you lubricate both manually and monitor central lubrication systems as well as handle emergency and preventive maintenance work.

In Kiruna, Malmberget, Svappavaara and Luleå, both underground and above ground, in processing plants and workshops.
When does the job start?
According to agreement, but no later than mid-June.
What are the working hours?
Daytime or different types of shifts with mornings and/or afternoons.
Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. In addition, you are a trained mechanic or have a great interest in mechanics. You may have started or completed an education in industry/vehicles, previous work experience or you are self-taught.
Electrician and automation technician
Having a summer as an electrician and automation technician with us is a unique chance to develop your skills and take the next step in your career. Here you get to work in a high-tech environment where electricity and automation play a central role in order for production to function smoothly and efficiently. This summer job gives you the opportunity to contribute to sustainable solutions together with colleagues. In addition, you gain insight into the mining industry, an industry where the demand for electricians is high.
What are the job duties?
As an industrial electrician, you work with operation and maintenance of high and low voltage distribution as well as installation and service of electrical equipment. As an automation technician, you work with maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, checks and calibration.

I Kiruna, Malmberget och Svappavaara. Både under jord och ovan jord i våra anläggningar.

Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. To work as an electrician/automation technician, you must have started or completed an education in electricity.
Fitters and operating personnel in heating, ventilation and water
As an employee at Media, you are responsible for operation and maintenance of, among other things, ventilation, heating, water and compressed air. The work tasks partly consist of repair, new assembly, patrolling, and preventive maintenance in various facilities. For example, you work with pumps, boilers of various types, compressors, change filters and inspect tailings dams. The scope of the duties differs from location to location. A summer job at Media gives you the opportunity to develop your practical skills and gain experience of working in a technical and varied environment. In addition, you gain insight into the mining industry, an industry where the opportunities for skill development and jobs are great.
What are the job duties?
LKAB’s Media departments are responsible for operation and maintenance of, among other things, ventilation, heating and water. The duties consist of new assembly, inspection, repair and preventive maintenance in various facilities. For example, you work with pumps, change filters and inspect tailings dams.

Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. To work in our Media departments, you should preferably have started or completed an education in heating, ventilation and water. We are looking for both fully trained fitters and operating personnel without previous experience.
Operating staff
Working as an operator in the mining industry is a versatile and responsible job that offers you the chance to be a central part of production. Working as an operator means you develop valuable skills in process monitoring and machine optimisation, while working closely with colleagues and becoming part of a strong team working to maintain safety and productivity in the mine.
What are the job duties?
As an operator above ground, you work with operation, maintenance, supervision, patrolling and shoveling. Respond to emergency incidents, maintain order, and replace machine units. You do first level inspections and error reporting as well as set up and adjust machines and do process sampling.
As an operator in the mine, you work with control and operation of the crushers, the skip feed, tap groups and distribution levels within fixed facilities. The role also involves simpler mechanics, cleaning up production waste and skid handling at track level.

Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. No specific experience is required, but it is an advantage if you enjoy moving around at work and have basic tool skills.
Miner
As a miner, you can work in many different places in our underground mines with varying tasks that are important for the mining operation. The job may involve drilling and securing rock, blasting, or maintaining and servicing production areas. The work takes place underground and you get to develop your practical and technical skills. The mining profession offers many different roles and is an important part of the mining industry's daily operations.

Underground in Kiruna and Malmberget.
When does the job start?
According to agreement, but no later than March-April.
What are the working hours?
Shift work with mornings and afternoons.
Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. No specific experience is required, but it is important that you can start working in March-April.
Drifting/development work
Dirifting means to drill and secure the rock underground. The main task of development work is to drive tunnels and reinforce the rock walls for a safe working environment in the production areas. The position as a miner working in drifting consists of driving drilling and bolting rigs, but also simpler repairs and troubleshooting of the machine you drive.
Drilling
The tasks of cave drilling include production drilling, which means we create boreholes where the chargers then blasts the rock loose. This is done either from a control room or from a sight located underground. The tasks also include moving the drilling rig, changing drill bits and daily supervision, which is done out in the production areas where the rig is located.
Special drilling
The special drilling is tasked with drilling special holes and hole cleaning on behalf of other work groups. The nature of the work varies as both planned and urgent jobs are carried out. The special drilling is a small and close-knit work group that has the entire mine as its work area.
Charging
The chargers’ main task is to charge and blast explosives in the boreholes created by the drillers and drifters. Scaling’s main task is to inspect and secure the rock for other workplaces. As a temporary worker, you carry out the work, both in charging and scaling, together with an experienced colleague.
Sub-level service
Sub-level service acts as a service organisation for the mine. The workplace’s mission is to build, service and maintain the production areas. In the role of miner at sub-level service, you will have many and varied tasks. Examples of this could be salvaging loaders, acting as a transport manager, setting up cable protection and carrying out daily supervision of production areas.
Mine builder
As a mine builder, you work underground constructing and creating new mining locations. The work includes formwork and casting of concrete structures, rough carpentry and reinforcement work.

Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. You also need to have started/completed education or experience in construction.
Supervisor for holiday workers
LKAB receives holiday youth workers every summer. The holiday youth workers are between 15–17 years old and you get a unique chance to help them at the beginning of their working life. Leading a group of young people means that you get to work on your ability to organise, delegate and manage conflicts. These are important skills that can be useful in many other contexts, both in work life and in private life.
What are the job duties?
As a supervisor, you act as supervisor for holiday youth workers. You plan and are responsible for light property maintenance and maintenance of green areas.
Where is the job?
Above ground on property and green areas in Kiruna, Malmberget or Svappavaara.
When does the job start?
June.
What are the working hours?
Daytime, Monday to Friday.
Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. It is desirable if you have an interest in leadership and enjoy working with young people.
Laboratory assistant, sampler and analysis technician
A summer job in our laboratory operations gives you valuable technical experience, in-depth laboratory skills and insight into an important industry. You get to work with analysis and sustainability, while contributing to quality and environmental responsibility. It is an educational work environment that opens doors for future opportunities. At LKAB there is, for example, an agglomeration lab, X-ray lab, environmental lab, operation lab and mining lab.
What are the job duties?
As a laboratory assistant, sampler or analysis technician, you work in one of our labs. Collection of samples, sample preparation and some analysis are included in the duties. As a sampler and analysis technician, this includes some heavy lifting, which today is carried out without lifting devices.

In Kiruna, Malmberget and Svappavaara. Both underground, in open pits and above ground in our various facilities.

Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. For the role of laboratory technician in Kiruna, it is required that you have completed the courses Chemistry 1 and 2. As a laboratory technician in Malmberget and Svappavaara, chemistry is an advantage but not a requirement. As a sampler and analysis technician, it is also important that you are comfortable working with numbers and text, as the work involves careful analyses of various data.
Storage worker
Working at the central storage provides an important role within the company, helping to ensure that operations run smoothly by managing and distributing materials efficiently. It is a varied job that mixes both practical and administrative tasks that provide a pleasant and stimulating work environment. In addition, you get the opportunity to work in close collaboration with various departments and contribute to the company's success.
What are the job duties?
As a storage worker at LKAB, you manage and organise the company’s storage facility, including goods receipt, storage and distribution of materials and products to the rest of the business. The tasks are roughly equal parts work in our business system and physically handling materials, mainly with a forklift but also with other aids. Duties also include keeping order in the storage and collaborating with different departments to meet their needs for materials.

Above and below ground in Kiruna and Malmberget and above ground in Svappavaara.
When does the job start?
According to agreement, but no later than mid-June.
What are the working hours?
Mainly daytime, but shift work may occur.
Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. No specific experience is required.
Operator
As an operator in LKAB's control centers, you play a central role in controlling and monitoring the mining processes. In Kiruna, you are responsible for remote bottling and some underground maintenance. In Malmberget, you control the flow from mine to processing plants and also work out in the field. As a terminal operator at LKAB Malmtrafik, you handle the loading and unloading of iron ore as well as maintenance at terminals, which includes inspection and brake testing of trains. These roles offer a mix of technical supervision and hands-on work in an advanced mining environment.

Kiruna and Malmberget underground and at our terminals in Kiruna, Svappavaara and Malmberget.
When does the job start?
According to agreement but no later than April, except at the control center in Kiruna where later start dates are accepted.
What are the working hours?
Shift work with mornings, afternoons and nights.
Who can apply?
You need to be 18 years old or over, have a driver’s license and be fluent in spoken and written Swedish. No specific experience is required at the control centers. For a job as a terminal operator, it is advantageous to have professional experience from the railway. It is a security-classified position, so to work as a terminal worker you need to pass a selection test and meet certain health requirements such as great eyesight, normal color vision and good hearing.
Control center Kiruna
As an operator at the control center in Kiruna, you mainly work above ground in the control room, but underground work also occurs. The operator’s task is to control, among other things, the remote tapping, which means loading railcars underground with ore. There is also some work underground which can include maintenance on gears, such as cleaning.
Control center Malmberget
At the control center in Malmberget, you work as a flow operator in the mine’s control center. As a flow operator, you work with monitoring, control and correction of the process from mine to processing plants. The duties also include field work and minor repairs (Works mostly only out in the field).
Terminal operator LKAB Malmtrafik
LKAB Malmtrafik AB transports LKAB’s iron ore products to the ports of Luleå and Narvik with its own locomotives and wagons. As a terminal operator for LKAB Malmtrafik, you work with controlling the loading and unloading of ore transports from a control room next to the terminal. You also work with arrival inspection and brake testing of arriving and departing trains, as well as general maintenance at our terminals.
