Are you an engineer with an interest of hard rock and mountains? Would you like to predict the future for the city of Kiruna? We are looking for engineers with knowledge in rock mechanics, soil mechanics or structural mechanics.

We are a group of engineers that collect measurement data, analysis, and document the mining induced ground deformations. This means that we develop measurement methods and analysis methods to predict the future ground deformations.

Mining in the Kiruna mine is moving towards greater depths, which brings increased challenges both underground as well as on the ground surface. It has not gone past anyone that the old city center of Kiruna is being moved so that mining can proceed.

Within the Rock Engineering section, a dedicated group monitors and analyzes the environmental impact of the country rock caused by the mining method sublevel caving. Reliable forecasts of ground deformation and the impact of seismic events on the community and LKAB’s industrial area are essential for planning decommissioning and redevelopment.

…an interest in identifying and overcoming the challenges inherent to deep as well as large-scale underground mining. Qualities of interest for this position are a curiosity for technology, enjoyment of problem-solving, found of working in a group as well as individual, and good analytical ability.

You will be based in the city of Kiruna, with a population of approximately 23 000, situated in Swedish Lapland, above the Arctic Circle. The community of the same name is spread out over vast areas and offer great opportunities for fantastic outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, ice climbing, fishing, hunting etc.
